The Section-Elevation Line tool creates an object that serves as a reference line graphic for vertical sections and elevations, or as a cutting plane graphic.
In Design Suite products, a section line can be linked to a section viewport. If the line was used to create the section viewport it's linked to, it also "defines" the viewport, which means that moving or reshaping the section line can affect the viewport. Section-elevation lines also have the following functionality.
Create a section viewport from an unlinked section-elevation line.
Link a section-elevation line to an existing viewport, for annotation purposes.
Sync the line’s drawing title, drawing number, and sheet number with the linked viewport.
To create a section-elevation line:
Click the tool.
Do one of the following:
Click Style on the Tool bar to select a resource from the Resource Selector.
Click Preferences to open the object properties dialog box and specify the tool’s default parameters.
The parameters can be edited later from the Object Info palette.

Linked Viewport (Design Suite required) |
Specifies which viewport the section-elevation line is linked to. If a viewport is displayed here but it cannot be edited, this marker also defines the viewport. See Editing section-elevation lines for details about how to move or reshape the marker without affecting the viewport. If a viewport is displayed and editable, this marker is linked to the viewport but doesn't define it. Unlinked markers display <None>, and a red link icon is displayed next to the marker on the drawing (the icon does not print). If you delete a linked viewport, you can specify whether to delete linked markers or leave the unlinked markers in place. |

Auto-coordinate (Design Suite required) |
For a line linked to a viewport, automatically displays the Drawing Title, Drawing Number, and Sheet Number of the viewport in the line’s marker. If the line defines a section viewport, deselect to enter this information manually. |

Drawing Title/ Drawing Number/ Sheet Number |
Identifies the item the line references. If the line is not linked to a viewport, or if Auto-coordinate is deselected, enter the information manually. Otherwise, the information from the linked viewport is used. |

Click to place one end of the section-elevation line. To insert a multi-segment line, click again to define each segment. Double-click at the end point to finish the section-elevation line.
Editing section-elevation lines
Once a section-elevation line is in the drawing, you can use the Selection or Reshape tool to edit the shape of the line object. The following additional options are available on the Object Info palette when editing section-elevation lines.

Use different end marker |
If the line Configuration is set to Section, specifies that the marker defined in the end marker layout will be used for one end of the section-elevation line |

Edit End Marker Layout |
If Use different end marker is selected, opens an editing window to create or edit a marker for the end of the section-elevation line; see Creating styles for markers and drawing labels |
If the marker defines a viewport (Design Suite required), moving or reshaping the marker can affect the viewport. To edit the marker but avoid viewport changes, select Edit > Cut to cut the existing marker, and then select Edit > Paste In Place to paste a new linked marker into the drawing. The new marker doesn't define the viewport, so you can edit the marker as needed.
